The Subic Bay Freeport Chamber of Commerce (SBFCC) distributed hundreds of family-size relief packs and heavy-duty multi-purpose 10’x10’ tarpaulins to various areas in Olongapo City this Saturday.
The areas include evacuation centers at the Sta. Rita Elementary School, the Sta. Rita High School, the Barretto Elementary School where dozens of already flooded families were also devastated by a landslide just last Friday, and the Nagbaculao fishing village in Barangay Kalaklan.
“We have a bunch of kind-hearted members who are always willing to provide assistance to the needy in times of disasters. It is an honor and privilege for me to lead and represent our organization,” Piano said.
The initial donors include Subic Enerzone, PacTec, GrainPro, Global Development, RP Energy, Aviation Concepts, Absolute Service, Printing Images, Subicwater, Nicera, KPMG, and RCBC, among others.
SBFCC member companies and individuals are from more than two dozen different countries who are located within the Subic Bay Freeport.
In the past years, the Subic Chamber provided many relief operations to Olongapo City and surrounding towns, and even to Botolan, Zambales and Calumpit, Bulacan.
Below are photos during the relief operation:
It was already late at night yet donated goods still continue to arrive.
Goods were consolidated at the Absolute Service Inc training room.
ASI employees volunteered to repack the goods into family-size relief packs.
A pack would normally be composed of:
2 kg Rice
4 pcs Pancit Canton
6 pcs Biscuits
3 bottles Water (large-size bottled waters will be distributed separately)
3 pcs Milo (choco powder milk)
3 pcs Busog Lusog (milk w/ oats)
5 pcs Assorted canned goods (sardines, corned beef, corned tuna, luncheon meat)
1 pc Rice Ulam (rice w/viand)
2 pcs Cup Noodles
6 pcs Coffee (3 in 1)
1 bottle Green Cross Alcohol
1 pc Multi-purpose tarp (only for selected families who really have a need for it)
For families with 5 or more members, 2 packs were scheduled to be provided.

Loading relief goods to truck early in the morning. Thank you to former city Councilor Edwin Piano for loaning the truck.
First stop is the Sta. Rita Elementary School evacuation center. Thank you to the barangay and city officials, DSWD, and St. Joseph’s School Batch ’76 Alumni who helped control the crowds and made the distribution orderly.
The recipients of the relief goods were happy and appreciative of the Subic Chamber efforts to help them in time of need.
Next stop was the Sta. Rita High School evacuation center.
Third stop was at the Barretto Elem. School with victims of floods and landslides. Here with Barangay and DSWD officials. It was interesting that the flood victims, when asked how they plan to use the tarps, said that they will likely use those as mattings instead since their beds were all flooded and soaked.
The final stop was at the fishing village in Nagbaculao area in Barangay Kalaklan. Folks were too happy to receive news about the relief goods they were about to get.
